Who is ABB'S?

In December 1992, James Mosley went through a challenging and exciting time in his life. He, along with his wife, Wally, took the first steps to launching their own business. After spending years working in the service industry in restaurant management and sales, James developed a plan for starting his own service-oriented business.

James attributes much of the company's success to referrals from satisfied customers.

Take Ruth Hunter, for instance. She first called ABB'S to clean the carpet in a rental house. "James got up some spots we didn't believe he could get up," she recalls. "ABB'S made the carpet look so good that we didn't even have to think about replacing it."

Merideth Hill had objected to the odor of the chemicals that other carpet cleaners had used. "They always smelled too sweet and heavy," she explained." When ABB'S was finished,

extensive training in carpet, drapery and upholstery cleaning. After investing in state-of-the-art equipment, he and his wife set, Wally, set up shop. Out of all their hard work was born ABB'S Professional Carpet Care.

As he tells it, it was middle age that started him thinking about building their own business. Ironically, James found his opportunity for success in carpet cleaning - a trade he had learned as a young man.

"I had enjoyed the satisfaction that our customers expressed," he recalls. As he considered taking up his old trade once again, James discovered a company whose cleaning technology would allow him to provide the highest level of service to his customers.

So, he attended the Bane-Clene Institute in Indianapolis, Indiana and received

In early 1993, before they even had a chance to paint the company name on the side of their van, ABB'S landed their first job. Success was not long in coming. Within a year, the business was thriving. Within two years, their annual sales had doubled. It is through his hard work, dedication and commitment to quality service and customer satisfaction that James Mosley has achieved his goals.

James receives the Businessman of the Year award for 1996, from J.R. Gonzales, Chairman of the Austin Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

my home just smelled fresh; it was great. And I like the fact that the chemicals are environmentally safe."

James' determination to do things "right" also wins him rave reviews. "ABB'S is very responsive to any kind of problem; he's been very professional," said Cameron Gage, owner and manager of Gage

Healthier carpets ... and homes

James Mosley's enthusiasm for his chosen profession is contagious. Now, he says, he wants to educate his customers on proper carpet care, to help them enjoy a healthier home and extend the life of their carpets. In the process, he just might elevate carpet cleaning to a whole new status.

Selecting a carpet cleaning professional

Do your homework
A solid recommendation from family or friends usually provides the most peace of mind when shopping for a carpet care professional. But what if you don't know anyone that can provide you with the benefit of their experience? Then you ask for references from a prospective company. A reputable business should be able to provide you with a list of satisfied clients that have used their services. You can also check with the local Better Business Bureau for information or history on the company you are considering.

Be cautious of any company contacting you over the phone or one that is canvassing your neighborhood. Also, be wary of any company that advertises a cleaning price by the room, as room sizes vary and charges should be based on the total area cleaned.

Ask Questions
Once you have identified a prospective carpet care professional, ask questions!

How long has the company been in business?

What formal training is required for the company’s management and cleaning technicians? A reputable company should require that employees receive training certification from recognized national companies or organizations.

What are the basic services offered and what are considered extra charges? What are the prices for each?

What type of cleaning method should be used?

Who will move the furniture, and is there an extra charge for doing so?

Have a representative come to your home and explain the method of cleaning that is most suited to your carpets needs. Ask what types of services will be performed.

Consider more than price alone
There are over 30,000 reputable carpet-cleaning businesses in the U.S. But there are many that are not so ethical and these should be avoided. Use these tips to determine who is right for you. Most importantly, while it's tempting to go with the low bidder, remember to not to base you carpet cleaning choice on price alone. Consider all aspects of a business when making your choice.

You'll be glad you did!
